How to Choose the Right Web Hosting Account

While web hosting is not the most exciting part about creating a website, it is one of the most important aspects. All websites must be hosted, but not all hosting accounts are created equal. You need to adapt your specific web host to your business needs, and this Hub will tell you about the 5 factors that most impact a hosting account: reliability, speed, bandwidth, support, and pricing.

5 Factors to Consider When Choosing Your Hosting Account

1. Reliability- It seems apparent that reliability is important, but what can you do in order to determine if a hosting site is reliable? The easiest way to find this out is look at the number of users. Sites like GoDaddy, Yahoo, and Register.com have millions of users, with the number of users growing regularly. Since all of these people trust the site and remain loyal to it, chances are the site holds up to their standards.

2. Speed- How many times have you left a website because it took too long to load? Probably more times than you can count. Speed is determined by the amount of RAM you have. The amount you need varies based on the type of site you have. When hosting simple site such as an informational site or a blog 256 to 512 MB will work well, but for hosting something more complex, like a social networking software, 2 to 4 GB will be necessary.

3. Bandwidth- When you create a website you want to encourage sudden spikes in traffic. However, if your hosting account has capacity issues, your business will not benefit from traffic spikes.

4. Support- This criteria is two fold. A hosting site with good customer support will help enhance your security and guide you through difficulties. While everyone hopes that their website will not have any trouble, that no problems will ever occur, and no questions will ever come about, this is usually far from true. A great support team will also be ahead of the curve in terms of security, allowing for updates when necessary. Make sure to test out the support services before making a purchase to ensure they meet your standards.

5. Pricing- You must consider your budget when purchasing, but also reevaluate over time to make sure you are getting the most for your money. Hosting accounts should not take up too much of your funds, but make sure to find the best one possible.

@lauren geb I suggest cirtexhosting.com or newbiesite.com if you are just starting out. There are also options like godaddy if you are thinking more large scale. Make sure to shop around for the best hosting account for you.

Finding the right web hosting account is certainly difficult and important. I was using free hosting from Blogger for my blog but recently purchased my own domain and hosting account. It was a great decision for my blog and has really increased the traffic. These factors are really important, especially reliability! I don't want my blog to go down.
